Temporary Lecturer in Ancient History

We are looking to appoint a temporary Lecturer in Ancient History within the School of Classics for a period of 4 years, commencing September 2021.  The successful candidate will be required to teach across the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Ancient History, Archaeology and Classical Studies. However, we would especially welcome applications from colleagues whose teaching strengths are in the area of the History and/or Archaeology of the Roman Republic.

Candidates will hold a PhD in a relevant field and have teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.  The successful applicant will be expected to conduct excellent research in any area of ancient history or archaeology, and to contribute actively to the School’s research environment.

Please direct any informal enquiries to Prof. Rebecca Sweetman (classicshos@st-andrews.ac.uk) and Dr Myles Lavan (mpl2@st-andrews.ac.uk).

We are fully committed to equality and diversity in our recruitment and employment policies.  We operate family-friendly hours for core meetings and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for staff.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are underrepresented in Academic posts at the University.

The University of St Andrews is committed to equality for all, demonstrated though our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter and Stonewall).

Application deadline: 8 March 2021.
